Force majeure is defined as an event or effect, such as war, civil strife, labor unrest, or extreme weather, that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled and would adversely affect the School’s financial condition.  Q & A

Q1.
What are your school start and end dates?
A1.
Our school year must include 180 teaching days, usually beginning the third week in August and ending mid-June. Holidays include the Korean national holidays, three weeks at Christmas, a week at Lunar New Year, and a week at Easter.
Q2.
What are your school hours?
A2.
Students attend school from Monday to Friday from 8:20 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Preschool students attend either 8:15 - 11:15 a.m. or 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Q3.
What are your class sizes?
A3.
Elementary School: The maximum class size is 20 students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten, and Grade One. For Grades Two through Five, the maximum class size is 22 students. Teacher assistants are provided up through grade two. In addition, parent and high school volunteers may assist all teachers in the classrooms.

British School: The maximum class size is 14 for each of the Preschools sessions and 22 (with an additional two places reserved for late British Passport holder arrivals) for Reception to Year 6.

Middle School: The maximum class size is 22 students per class.

High School: Class sizes range from 5 to 25 depending on the courses. Lower grade classes which are not as specialized tend to have more students assigned, while some very specialized upper division courses, e.g. IB Art/Design, tend to have very few students.
.
Q4.
Do you provide school bus service?
A4.
We have a fleet of buses that serve most of the foreign residential areas of the city and are generally limited to driving routes that do not exceed one hour in driving time. Please refer to School Bus Information for specific bus routes, bus stops, and bus policies.
Q5.
What school supplies do we need to bring?
A5.
British School: All school supplies are included in the cost of tuition and will be provided for students as needed.

Elementary, Middle, and High School: A list of supplies to be purchased for each grade level is available.
Q6.
Do you have a dress code?
A6.
The British School, unlike the other three divisions of Seoul Foreign School, has a uniform. Students must wear the uniform sold by the school. No substitutions will be accepted.

Elementary School students do not wear uniforms. Clothes must be clean, safe, modest, positive in message and the correct size. Hats will not be worn in school. Children do need a second pair of athletic shoes to leave at school that are worn inside for PE classes. Swimming suits will also be needed for swimming units. Please do not purchase black soled shoes as they leave scuff marks on the floor

Middle School: While we would like to be able to say "Just make it clean and neat" we have found that a little more specificity is helpful! In short we say no to sagging, bagging, dragging, belly buttons, and visible underwear. See the MS handbook for specific details.

High School: No dress code except for the basic need to adhere to neat, clean, modest, and safe dress. Students are requested to NOT wear "crop tops", tops with spaghetti straps, tank tops, halter tops, excessively tattered or torn pants, very short skirts or short-shorts to school. All students are to wear shoes or sturdy sandals at all times.
Q7.
What amount of homework should my child expect?
A7.
Elementary School: In order to meet the minimum expectations of the classroom, the amount of time any student spends on homework assignments normally should not exceed 30 minutes per night for Grades 1-2, and 60 minutes per night for Grades 3-5.

British School: Reception, Years 1 and 2 send home a reading book every night; Years 3 and 4 spend approximately 30 minutes per night on homework and Years 5 and 6 approximately one hour. Homework is listed in the "Green Book" and parents sign the list each night to show that it is completed.

Middle School: Normally, sixth graders are assigned an average of about 90
